Choosing your career path

Posted on By Harun Mbijiwe No Comments on Choosing your career path

Have you ever wondered why some people complain in their working places and others feel good all day long? This is brought about because some do what they love, others for convenience. Those doing the job because they love it feel fulfilled; they become a blessing to humanity and put all their efforts to accomplish whatever they do well. They feel guilty when they under-perform. That is why they live a happy life all through.
Have you ever wondered why grown-ups ask the young ones what they would like to become when they grow up?

If you have never been asked that question, then something is wrong. Most of the people have answers which are very fascinating. I would like to be a doctor, lecturer, professor, nurse, engineer, orthopedic, pediatrician, politician etc. Little do we know a big percentile of the same pupils who said these strong words will slip back and do something totally opposite and become failures in life.

Career selection starts from within not without. It is not what your mother; father, relatives and friends say that matters much in the career selection, it is about what you feel about it. These people in your life do affirmations but cannot select a career for you. It starts from the day you start saying, I would like to become a doctor. I like the words of Frank Parsons who was an American professor, social reformer and public intellectual, ‘It is better to choose a career than merely to hunt a job.’ The greatest problem in the job market is under-performance and lack of interest in our working places. This is brought about by career choice. Choose your career well and live a fulfilled life. Choose the wrong career and live unfulfilled life.
You need to know several things before you choose your career so that you do not put yourself into problems in future. These include but not limited to:

  1. Knowing your personality.
  2. Understanding your personal interests.
  3. Understanding your lifestyle version.
  4. Understanding the requirements of the career in question.
  5. Getting your skills right.
  6. Get involved in the field beforehand to know what it entails.
  7. Know the requirements.
  8. Beware of your values.
  9. Do thorough research on different career options.

The list continues…. Click the link on the title of this book, if you want to know more about career selection read the book “Learners Success Guide In The 21st Century”   Sectret #16
